Sledgehammer Games is the latest developer now in a three year development cycle to make Call of Duty. Advanced Warfare was first a Vietnam warfare game project created by the studio back in 2011. However, it has completely changed into this futuristic warfare genre. This is due to half of Infinity Wards’ development team leaving the studio due to a conflict with Activision and so Sledgehammer had to step in and help finish Infinity Wards’ current project at the time, Modern Warfare 3. Advanced Warfare is supposed to be using the 2013 newly built Activision Engine for next gen systems, this means all the Call of Duty development studios will be finally ditching the old modified quake engine known as “IW engine.” A new game engine will mean all new game play mechanics, enhanced next-gen graphics, and sophisticated animations. This game may be the most revolutionary Call of Duty since, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, in 2007.
Graphics
Graphics, a feature that used to be minor has now become a major factor within the composition of a game. For the last seven years, we have not seen an upgrade in graphics. Although Ghosts was on the next gen systems, it truly does not have next-gen graphics because the textures and resolution was up-scaled. The graphics in Advanced Warfare are truly next-gen because the Activision 2013 engine allows more polygons to be formed in order to form more complex textures and lighting. You can see the beads of sweat drip off the characters , the environment is so surreal, and you can see detailed bits of shrapnel off the explosions.
Gameplay
With the new game engine, there are many new gameplay mechanics. Players can now double jump, strafe, and fly around the map. During the campaign players can now use various vehicles to travel around levels. Weaponry in the game has taken a turn, in addition to standard weaponry there will be laser powered weapons and weapons that have built in 3D printers that can generate arrays of bullets. The whole game is based off of Exo-suits and these suits grant players super-human abilities.
Campagin
The campaign plot of the game looks different from all the other plots of the game. It is not country against country with America being crippled as usual. It is about a massive terrorist attack that has been taken out on 5 continents int the world, leaving many major countries crippled. People have now turned to a private military corporation named ‘Atlas’ to fight their wars and protect them. Atlas responds only to the highest bidder and in Advanced Warfare, that would be the United States. The PMC is lead by Jonathan Irons, who’s intentions at first were good then he later turns evil further into the game. It is up to the protagonist who is apart of Atlas to stop Irons.
