Higher Quality Virtual Console Titles –
Nintendo is relying on mostly Virtual Console titles for their March 2013 Club Nintendo rewards program, a couple of which are repeat games. However, they are of higher quality so be sure to check them out if you have not done so already.
Game #1 – 3D Classics: Kid Icarus (3DS)
Price – 150 Coins, normally $5.99
Availability – March 11, 2013 – April 7, 2013
Summary – Pit’s originally NES adventure has been updated to support the hardware features of the 3DS.
Opinion – If you have to play the original Kid Icarus, this is the way to do it thanks to a save feature and the added 3D support. However, know that Kid Icarus is a challenging game. You will die. A lot. And will be frustratingly turned into an eggplant multiple times. You have been warned.
Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – Yes, this is the best way to experience Pit’s first trip through Angel Land.
Game #2 – Starship Defense, DSiWare (3DS)
Price – 150 Coins, normally $4.99
Availability – March 11, 2013 – April 7, 2013
Summary – Tower Defense on graph paper.
Opinion – I have not played this title but it actually looks pretty unique. Space ships seem to fly in from the top screen and player must strategically place turrets on the bottom screening using the touch controls. This doesn’t not seem like a typical Tower Defense.
Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? If you enjoy games that make you think, they you might want to check this out.
Game #3 – Super Punch-Out, SNES (Wii Virtual Console)
Price – 150 Coins, normally 800 Wii Points
Availability – March 11, 2013 – April 7, 2013
Summary – Little Mac returns to the ring to knock out larger than life characters.
Opinion – Punch-Out!!, the original NES title, was a part of the Club Nintendo program a couple month ago (Jan 2013) and Super Punch-Out was actually available last November. But if you are a fan of the original, there is no reason to not download this game. With one part reflexes and one part puzzle solving, Super Punch-Out is a mental workout of a game.
Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – Yes, if you didn’t already download it and enjoy using trial and error.
Game #4 – Mario Tennis, N64 (Wii Virtual Console)
Price – 150 Coins, normally 1000 Wii Points
Availability – March 11, 2013 – April 7, 2013
Summary – Mario and friends take to the court in a variety of single and multiplayer games and modes.
Opinion – N64’s Mario Tennis was previously available as a Club Nintendo download back in July 2012. Although it has not aged as gracefully as other N64 titles, Mario Tennis is still an enjoyable time on the court. Just don’t expect Transfer Pak functionality.
Download it? – Sure, if you have not done so already.
Nintendo has been reusing WiiWare and Virtual Console games for months now. Hopefully they will start to add GBC and especially GBA games to their Club Nintendo program sometime in 2013.
