Codemasters announced today that they have cancelled development on Dragon Empires, their highly anticipated MMORPG title. The UK-based developer/publisher cited “technical issues” as the reason, and thanked the game’s online community saying it had “taken the decision to cancel further development of Dragon Empires”.
Dragon Empires was first announced in September 2001, and has since had its share of trouble. The game was delayed for a first time in April 2002, but was brought back for the 2003 E3 show, which lead to live testing in July of last year. However, the game was delayed yet again in January before being on track for a fall 2004 release date…until today.
Codemasters insisted that the decision to close Dragon Empires’ development wouldn’t affect their plans in the MMORPG market for the future, and they are currently evaluating those oppurtuinites. .
