PS TV Being Discontinued in Japan

According to the Playstation Japan website, the PlayStation TV is being discontinued in Japan. Currently, the cancellation is only aimed at Japan. We will have to wait and see about other regions but it is not looking good.

Ps-TVHeaderRetailers like Best Buy and Walmart have sold PS TVs with deep discounts over the last several months. Apparently the PS TV only sold about 185,000 units since its launch in late 2013. Sony’s head honcho, Shuhei Yoshida, said part of the PS TV’s failure was the “hard concept to explain.”

Personally, I enjoy my PS TV even those the cost of Vita memory cards are still high and it lacks common apps like Netflix. But having the ability to play PSP, PSOne, and some Vita games on my TV has been a real treat.
