Some of you may remember my article covering Farmer’s Life, late last year. After scoring the game a solid 8 out or 10, my thoughts were laid bare; I thoroughly enjoyed donning my rain boots and getting stuck in to the farmer’s way of life (albeit without the bitter cold, early mornings, hard labor and actual mud) and found myself embroiled for hours while tending to my farm and battling with my alcohol problem (in-game, I should add).
With my thoughts cast in the public light, it’s quite easy to discern that I found Farmer’s Life to be a cut above many other farm simulation games, so imagine my delight when saw the Farmer’s Life DLC on the Steam store. Before I delve into what this digital extension offers, allow me to recap about the base game. It’s definitely a game worth highlighting for those that haven’t yet had the pleasure.
Farmer’s Life, In a Nutshell
Farmer’s Life throws you into the life of a former soldier returning home from war to find his parents have died and the farm that he grew up on racked to ruin in a run-down, overgrown and decrepit state. It’s up to you to tidy the place up and restore it to its former glory as a flourishing source of income. However, the toils of war have had their effect on our protagonist and left him with a soul-crushing addition to the devil’s brew, alcohol. You must battle with both your addiction and your mental scars if you are to make your parents proud and build yourself a fully-fledged farmland business.
An Addictive Sim with a Survival Thread
Farmer’s Life goes way beyond the usual bounds of independent simulator games and into the deeper realms of survivalist games. While building your farmland back to business, you must also stave off life’s danger such as thirst, hunger and the bitter cold of Winter.
You start the game doing the obligatory early clean up jobs – that have become the staple of simulation games – and sell any scrap you find for money to buy tools which, in turn, you can use to bring in other sources of income. From here the game picks up pace new opportunities open up and fresh avenues become available. If you haven’t already purchased the base game, it’s more than worth a look and the DLC really is the cherry atop the cake.
Farmer’s Life DLC:
The new DLC, Farmer’s Life: Pimp my Cottage brings a new level of customization to the base game by offering extensive design options for both inside and outside of your cottage. Given the option to completely reimagine your farmstead, you can rebuild it from the ground up, with the flexibility to throw out anything you don’t like in your house, except the front door.
Beyond the ability to let your creative juices flow while mapping out and designing interior spaces, you now have the freedom to import blocks and concrete buildings “almost straight from House Builder” and paint them and design their interiors to your own personal tastes. This highly versatile system allows us to experiment with different architectural styles as we build our dream farmsteads.
Last but certainly not least, Farmer’s Life: Pimp my Cottage will see the addition of cats and dogs. Yes, your pet piggy will now have some companions to keep him company and make your farm feel a little more like home.
These fresh additions will transform the way you interact with your farm and provide a far more immersive and engaging experience.
Farmer’s Life: Pimp my Cottage is available now on Steam and is priced at $5.39.
