I used to play way more on PC back then but now I mostly just game on consoles so my choices might be a bit old. My picks would go to Sims and Doom because I think those games were really unique at the time and they probably contributed a lot to modern games we enjoy now.

I usually don't unless I like the game so much that I'm willing to pay the developers even when I don't really have to. Sometimes I'd have a lot of in game cash built up just from playing but I'd still buy some extra just to support developers who obviously put effort and passion into a game.

I just like to get posters of games that I like as much as I can but they aren't very easy to find these days. Back then you could find one with every issue of Nintendo Power but I never really liked Nintendo games enough to buy those magazines.

This happens for me too except for the select few characters that I've practiced enough that the moves are muscle memory for me at this point. The only challenge is that there are usually some minor changes with each version of the game so I usually have to figure out how to tweak my gameplay first.
