June 27th will mark the 4th anniversary of the launch of Anarchy Online, the sci-fi MMORPG from publisher-developer Funcom. Anarchy has paved the way for many other MMO?s and Funcom has decided to treat the players very nicely for its 4th birthday, since it is the players who make the game right?
Funcom will be launching a series of events across Rubi-Ka, Anarchy?s virtual world, during the coming weekend. Players can look forward to PvP tournaments, scavenger hunts, trivia contests, hide and seek games, finding hidden item?s on random advertisement billboards and dance/costume contests. And if that wasn?t enough, a mass amount of prizes will be awarded from various companies such as Alienware, ATI, Creative, Logitech, Microsoft, Gamespot, IGN and Funcom. And even if that wasn?t enough for you, the events will all be broadcasted live through the use of [a] http://www.live365.com/stations/gridstream[aa] Gridstream productions[/a] and [a] http://www.mmoradio.com/[aa]MMOradio[/a] broadcasting networks.
Wow, you still want more? Well Funcom has also informed us that they will be upgrading various parts of the game such as content updates, a veteran program for long-term customers, an upgrade of all ground-textures in the game, as well as several game updates. Another expansion pack is also currently in making, known as Anarchy Online: Lost Eden.
Trond Arne Aas, Funcom’s CEO and President had this to say about this exciting time for the companies flagship title, “As we are entering our fifth year of live service we are naturally very proud of what we have achieved with Anarchy Online. The fact that we have seen a higher influx of new players in 2005 than most competing MMO games says a lot about Anarchy Online’s standing and qualities. The continued success bodes well for the future of both Anarchy Online and upcoming Funcom online games.”
As you all can most likely see, it looks to be a fun couple of days for any Anarchy player and a fun couple of months for Funcom. We will keep track of the updates and expansions to be implemented to Anarchy Online
