I am Your President – First Thoughts

The first few minutes of I am Your President filled me with hope for what lay ahead. The opening scene featured a crisp and clear narration that served to offer a little background into what was happening while treating the eyes to a short, high quality animation. This sleek aesthetic carries right through the game, with polished menus and crisp user interfaces.

While President Studio and 100 Games S.A aren’t going to be winning any awards for graphics, we have to remember that this is an indie game and give it a least a little leeway. In all fairness, the graphics seen in I am Your President have a distinct charm about them that makes playing the game all the more enjoyable. After playing a magnitude of independent games, it was refreshing to see that time had been taken and attention paid to detail.

With it’s quirky graphics and genuine sense of humor, I am Your President is quite easy to enjoy. However, there are one or two oversights that I feel should be addressed. There’s nothing I have found to be game-breaking but made it hard for me to play.

The Small Annoyances of I am Your President

By design and necessity, I am Your President is jam-packed with text. Given the nature of the game, this isn’t only expected but welcomed when playing such in-depth strategy games. However, my eyes aren’t what they once were and, because of this, I could barely read the vital information that was being relayed to me. In a bid to read the words, I dusted off my gaming chair and sat closer to the screen. It was no major issue but it’s likely that other people will share my plight.

The other issue I had was with the lack of sensible dialog options in some of the conversations. Given the context of the game, there are plenty of times where you need to put your big boy cap on and exercise sensibility. However, I am Your President so often gives you no option but to select reply choices that will make you inwardly cringe. Again, another small flaw that could be fixed with a small update but one I feel would massively improve the playability of this title.

I am Your President – Gameplay

First and foremost, I am Your President is a satirical game. The humor is on-point and abundantly laced throughout, keeping the game interesting and engaging. It’s also a deeply strategic game where you will be called upon to make crucial decisions that could make or break your presidency. You will also need to stay on top of international relations, by working with other governments for a mutually beneficial outcome. This is done via the world map, where you will be able to detailed statistics on each and every country and carry out tasks such as technology and trade deals, alongside information gathering through espionage.

You will also be introduced to various plotlines as you progress through your campaigns, such as your grandmother being outed as a Russian spy. How you handle them us up to you but tread carefully while making any rash decisions.

I am Your President – Summary

Sometimes funny to the point of hilarity, I am Your President will be a sure-fire way to give you some laughs. However, its no one-trick pony. The game is teeming with things to do and scenarios to discover, but have you got what it takes to step up and take the country into your arms? America needs you!
