Lawsuit Reveals Xbox: Codename Brooklyn Waiting in the Pipeline

A recent lawsuit, Federal Trade Commission v Microsoft Corp. and Activision Blizzard, Inc has uncovered some interesting projects that Microsoft have been previously keeping up their sleeve. Thanks to some leaked documentational evidence that was submitted to the court, an array of upcoming projects have found themselves in the limelight; including Microsoft’s plans to buy Bungie back and even make a move on Japanese gaming giants, Nintendo.

However, the details pertaining to a revitalized discless version of the Series X, that is currently going by the rather ambiguous codename of “Brooklyn“. Here’s everything we know so far about what’s in store.

Codename “Brooklyn” is a Modernized Marvel

Opting for a sleek, cylindrical aesthetic, Microsoft have adorned the upcoming (hopefully) console with all the bells and whistles; boasting USB-C ports with “power delivery”; an upgraded storage of 2TB; faster Wi-Fi, using Wi-Fi 6E “for better throughput latency and interference mitigation; BT 5.2 for better accessory experience and more.

From the outside looking in, it seems that Microsoft plan to go all out to bring a contemporary edge to their current generation of consoles.

Haptic Feedback Controller Set to Make an Appearance on the New Xbox Console

While Xbox owners have revelled in Xbox Game Pass and it’s many, many offerings, Sony’s haptic feedback controllers have always turned the heads of Xbox gamers and it seems that fans of Microsoft’s line of consoles will finally get to have a bite of that cookie.

The “Sebile” is set to launch alongside “Brooklyn” and will bring with it a plethora of mouth-watering features that are set to rival Sony’s coveted 9th generation DuelSense. Not only will the “Sebile” bring the immersive trigger feedback to the Xbox but will also feature direct cloud-to-cloud gaming, quieter buttons and thumbsticks.

Being the gift that seemingly keeps on giving, the new controller will also feature its own speakers and a “pick up to play” feature that will wake up both the console and the control pad by simply picking it up.

At this point, you’re probably thinking that the Sebile will be a real bank breaker. However, the good news us that the Sebile is set to launch at just $70. It’s not yet known whether or not they will be supported by the current Series S and Series X consoles, but we can always sit in abject hope.

Codename “Brooklyn” Price and Release Date

If the powers that be don’t change their minds about the pricing, Codename: Brooklyn will launch with a similar price tag to the current Xbox Series X, so expect to pay around $500 if you’re wanting pick one up close to launch.

When, exactly, Microsoft plan to release this revolutionary machine is not yet known. However, it’s expected to be announced some time in the next two months, so an October or November release date will likely be on the cards.

Xbox: Codename “Brooklyn” – Final Thoughts

While I’m somewhat excited to see the launch of Codename: Brooklyn (and, for that matter, it’s actual name), there’s a part of me that can’t shake dubious feelings that this could be little more than a cash grab. On paper, it looks to be ideal but we need to remember that at the minute, the console is still in its design stages and anything that we know may not quite meet the final cut.

The optimist in me, however, can’t wait for the console’s launch and wait in anticipation to see how rivals, Sony, will reply. Is it possible that we will see the same from the blue corner?

What are your thoughts on Microsoft’s next step? Let us know in the comments.
