New Nintendo DS Lite Info

Nintendo has just released new information about its upcoming redesign of the DS. The Nintendo DS Lite is now displayed on the FCC website and has been documented with pictures. These new pictures of the hardware confirm a few new details about the design of the system.

o The stylus is now stored horizontally, instead of vertically, on the right side.

o The DS Lite will now support the smaller Game Boy Micro AC adapter port instead of the slightly larger Game Boy Advance SP adapter port.

o Adding more stability to the system, the Game Boy Advance slot on the DS will now contain a protective but removable slot cover. This will act as a protective shield when the port is not in use. This should allow for a sturdier grip for user?s fingers.

o The volume slide bar and standard headphone jack remain unchanged and will appear in the same position.

o The power button also has been completely redesigned. Turning on the system no longer involves a button press, but is rather activated by a slider switch on the right side. This new power button is located above the new stylus slot. Preventing accidental shut-offs, the user must hold the switch for two seconds to control the machine?s power.

As a side note, the professional model name for the DS Lite system is USG. This model name abbreviation adds a slight amount of wonder. However, the original Game Boy was named DMG, the Game Boy Micro is abbreviated to OXY, and the standard DS model is shorted to NTR (code name for project Nitro).

The DS Lite is scheduled to be released on March 3 in Japan but no release date has been given for US and Europe audiences.
