With Ubisoft‘s latest Star Wars adventure, Star Wars Outlaws, recently getting its first trailer, the talk among the community is a mixed bag of excitement for the game’s release and resentment towards Ubisoft for their “people should get comfortable with not owning their games before subscription services really take off” statement, that came from an Assassin’s Creed executive.
With a whopping $140 pre-launch price-tag, it’s easy to understand the sudden stench of upset that has recently permeated the air. However, with Star Wars having such a loyal following, it’s doubtless that Ubisoft‘s sales will be “out of this world” for the upcoming title. So, here’s everything we know so far about Star Wars Outlaws.
Star Wars Outlaws will Feature the Franchise’s First Female Protagonist
Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Star Wars Outlaws will cast you into the well-worn boots of Kay Vess, a rogue with one mission on her mind: to pull off an extraordinary heist and secure her freedom from the tyrannical grips of the Empire. Accompanied by her cute companion, an indistinguishable creature named Nix, Vess must traverse the sprawling world, outwitting, stealing and working for the various crime syndicates within the galaxy in an action-packed bid to gain the means for her freedom.
While very little more is known about the storyline, the likes of Fallen Order and Jedi Outcast were both generously imbued with rich narratives, unforgettable characters and an all-round immersive experience. It’s safe to say that Star Wars Outlaws will offer more of the same.
Star Wars Outlaws will be the First Franchise Game to Feature an Open World Since KoToR
It was in the days of the original Xbox that we last experienced an open-world Star Wars game and Star Wars Outlaws is set to end the wait with the first open-world game since Knight of the Old Republic‘s release in 2003.
Star Wars Outlaws will allow us to explore bustling cities, lively cantinas and desolate lands. If this doesn’t sound appetizing enough, space exploration will be a defining feature, including adrenaline-inducing dog fights in the signature style of Star Wars; Move over, No Man’s Sky.
This open-world we take place across an array of hand-crafted planets of “manageable size”, meaning space exploration will play a prevalent part of the game and allow us to play “space tourists” as we visit familiar planets and meet familiar races, characters and creatures that are indigenous to their lands.
Star Wars Outlaws – Combat
Star Wars Outlaws will take place from a third-person perspective. While exploring on foot, we will encounter hand-to-hand combat, laser-gun firefights and sometimes even a call for a stealthy approach. When aboard your ship, The Trailblazer, we will be treated to exciting dogfights with the franchise-famous TIE fighters and larger scale battles against recognizable enemy titans such as the Star Destroyer.
By your side along the way, will be Nix, a versatile creature that will assist in tasks such as fetching enemy weapons and distracting adversaries with his/her ridiculously cute ways.
Star Wars Outlaws – Summary
The child in me always gets excited when a new Star Wars game, series or movie is announced. Star Wars Outlaws promises to be everything we have been asking for in a Star Wars game and I simply can not wait for the game’s launch on August 30. In the meantime, I have little other choice than to wait like in impatient child on the run-up to Christmas.
Star Wars Outlaws will be releasing on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It will also be available on the Ubisoft+ subscription service three days before release.
