Super Swap! DSiWare Review

A Bejeweled Clone –

Match three shapes of the same color to make them disappear, opening up the possibility of combos, and make room for new pieces to fall in their place – it is the puzzle game gameplay technique that has been used by many and is tried-and-true.  Super Swap! is basically a simplified Bejeweled-like clone with lower presentation values to fit its budget price.

Look familiar?

There are a few different modes available but with slight variation.  There is the typical level progression mode, a mode based around speed, and an endless mode that will inevitably end with a game over.  Rows mode, however, is a star of the bunch as it is basically one part Bejeweled mixed with one part Tetris Attack.  Instead of moving individual pieces, the player moves entire sets of pieces either vertically or horizontally and is definitely the stand-out option of the lot.

Yes, there are combos

Super Swap! features some brightly colored but very simple graphics and even has the options for different themed pieces but unfortunately there is no option for color-blind support, a staple in other puzzle games. But all-in-all, Super Swap! is one of Teyon’s better DSiWare/eShop downloadable games even though it basically a clone of the biggest and most important puzzle game to come along since Tetris.
