Electronic Arts today began shipping copies of it's latest release, dubbed Superman Returns: The Videogame to stores all across the US today. The game will combine the plot line of the movie on which the game is based but also will have 60 years worth of related material from DC Comics fit onto it somewhere. Be sure to check every mailbox in the game. Superman Returns: The Videogame was developed by Tiburon Studios in Orlando, Florida, one of EA's most well know studios, as it was responsible for the development of the Madden NFL games which is one of the most widely recognized video game franchises in the history of said franchise. Nothing but the best for the Man of Steel. 🙂

Now, though, it's time to tell you what you actually can do in the game. Well, for one thing, you have a lot of space that you can explore as you have over 80 miles of space in the city of Metropolis that you can explore from street level and up into the cloud layer EA promises a reworked flight system that will give the player total control of the moves Superman can perform as he fly through the air while battling super villains or their easily disposable minions. The game also sports over a 100 missions involving tasks so gigantic that only Superman can combat them..sorry, Jimmy, you'll have to sit this one out.

These missions include saving the city of Metropolis and the people who live in it from being wiped out, fighting various enemies, and also saving the whole planet from getting blown up too. Phew! I think someone'll need a Red Bull for this one. The big boy in blue will have all his well documented superpowers but there will be a learning curve for the player as he or she gets adjusted to fighting on the ground and in the air. Remember, he just makes it look easy.

Brandon Routh, who was the latest addition to the Red Cape League, will be having his look and voice added to the game in his role of the Man of Steel. Lois Lane will be voiced by Kate Bosworth, Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, and Sam Huntington as Jimmy Olsen will be translating their speaking roles in the movie for this game.

While on the subject of speaking, though, we have some words here from Steve Chiang, vice president and and general manager of EA Tiburon: "We are really proud to ship SUPERMAN RETURNS: THE VIDEOGAME today, as this is a huge milestone for our studio. We are thrilled to deliver the largest open-world game to date and to have set a new standard in super hero videogames at EA Tiburon.” He also added that “Now players get the ability to fly, fight and make decisions as Superman, the most powerful super hero, and save Metropolis."

Well, there you have it…have fun with it, but don't put it on your resume. It doesn't work.

Superman Returns: The Videogame is available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance.
