The Smurfs – Dreams (PC) Pre-Review

The Smurfs – Dreams is ready and poised and ready to once again bring the lovable tribe, blue in hue, into the world of interactive gaming. With a vague release window of October 2024, the game isn’t yet quite ready but the following is based on my hands-on experience with their pre-release demo.

The Smurfs – Dreams Offers Wholesome Fun for the Family

Famous since the mid-eighties The Smurfs have long since found themselves a household name. With over 250 televised episodes, 3 movies and a handful of video games, its likely that just about everyone has, at one time or another, heard of the iconic characters. Having garnered such a cult-like following from youngsters and adults alike, the franchise will undoubtedly be churning out movies and video games in decades to come.

The Smurfs – Dreams is set to continue on with the franchise’s unique brand of family fun while also providing some challenging gameplay.

The Smurfs – Dreams – Gameplay

Smurf Village is a little more tranquil than usual. The reason? Long time enemy of the blue guys, Gargamel, has cursed those tasty sarsaparilla bushes and their leaves – the staple food of the Smurfs – have sent the tribe into a deep slumber. Can you wake up all of the Smurfs before Gargamel reaches their village?

Throw yourself into a dreamlike world of adventure and intrigue as you seek out the Smurfs and awaken them from their cursed slumber. However, be warned that in these wonderous lands, anything can happen and dreams can quite quickly turn into harrowing nightmares.

The Smurfs – Dreams – Gameplay

The Smurfs Dreams is a platform adventure, bursting at the seams with the charm that we have to come to know, love and expect from The Smurfs. With its simple pick-up-and-play user friendliness, this game can be enjoyed by people of all ages, which is vastly refreshing in a world otherwise filled with guns, gore and gratuitous violence.

This immersive 3D platformer throws you into a magical world of wonder and fantasy as you navigate your way through each of the levels to awaken the Smurf that dwells within. Furthermore, with each Smurf you meet, you will be met with and have to face their nightmares. These can range from mind-boggling puzzles to tense boss fights, with many other surprises thrown into the mix along the way.

Furthermore, if you find any part of the game difficult or frustrating, you can call for aid and bring a friend into your adventure with a superbly crafted two player mode. This feature supports both couch co-op and online play, so you can ask just about anyone you know to join you on your adventure, or simply play alone in the comfort of your own company.

The Smurfs – Dreams Allows you to Customize Your Very Own Smurf

Bored of how your Smurf looks? No problem! Hidden in the stunning world are magic orbs and patterns that allow you to customize your Smurf to fit your tastes or your chosen mood. During my playthrough, I happened upon a number of these, so I can only guess that the final product will be chock-full of different customization options.

The Smurfs – Dreams is an enchanting adventure game, full of surprises. It’s simple enough to be enjoyed by children of all ages, yet manages to finely tread the line with some sections that will offer up a challenge. With that being said, there’s plenty here to be enjoyed by grown-up kids (adults) that seek a magical escape from the day-to-day grind.

Set to release this October, The Smurfs – Dreams will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and the Nintendo Switch.
