Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 is an upcoming third-person shooter from the offices of American development studio, Sabre Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment. Set to release this October (2024), the highly anticipated title will mark the 29th anniversary for Warhammer video games, with the first being Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat, way back in 1995.
Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 Sees a Return of Captain Titus
Centuries have passed since the events of the first game and Captain Titus has finally undergone Rubicon Primaris and emerged a fully fledged Primaris Space Marine. However, following his arrest at the end of the first Warhammer Space Marine game, our armor-clad hero has been demoted to the lesser rank of Lieutenant.
While little more is currently known, trailers and interviews have led me to believe that Warhammer Space Marine 2 will span two planets and take place during the Fourth Tyranid War. This, of course, means that this time around we will be battling the hivemind of the ferocious Tyranids, as opposed to the Orkz of the first game. Unlike the famously idiotic ork race, Tyranids have intelligence as well as numbers, meaning they will make a truly formidable force.
Warhammer 40k Space Marines 2: Platforms and a Possible Game Pass Day One Launch
Due to Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 being so resource heavy and graphically rich, the game will only be available for ninth-generation consoles and PC. While this may be bad news for some, it will mean the developers can go all-out and harness the power of the Xbox Series consoles and the PlayStation 5. With no outdated hardware to compromise for, we should be treated to a true display of what the two current consoles have to offer.
Apparently, Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 will be coming to Xbox’s subscription service, although we are unsure of when exactly this will happen. With Microsoft’s history of showing a fondness for adding big-budget titles to their Game Pass catalog on the first day of launch, I remain hopeful that subscribers to the service will be able to enjoy this upcoming hit on Day One.
Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 is Reminiscent of Gears of War
I won’t go as far as saying that if you’re a fan of Xbox’s bestselling franchise, you’ll definitely like Space Marine 2 but it will certainly help. Judging by the trailers, it looks as though Sabre Interactive have taken a leaf out of the iconic franchise’s book and brought back juiced-pumped protagonists and alien-slaughtering mayhem. There’s even a scene in one of the trailers where an unlucky Tyranid is falling foul of a chainsword and the blood-soaked carnage that follows looks very similar to the chainsaw event scenes from the Gears of War games.
Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 will Feature a Co-Op Mode
Space Marine 2 will allow you to play either as a single player with an AI team or cooperatively with up to two more players. Sadly, there isn’t yet any news on a PVP multiplayer mode but playing through the campaign with friends should make for a memorable experience.
Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 – Summary
Having been a fan of anything relating to Games Workshop since I was a child, I am as excited as a kid at Christmas for Space Marine 2′s release on September 9, 2024. Going by what the trailers show us, we should be in for an explosive, gory and chaotic bloodbath with a full-throttle pace. The last Space Marine game lived up to all my expectations and I sincerely hope that Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 follows in its path.
