WWE 2K24 has cued its entrance movie and is ready to make a dramatic entrance into the steroid-fuelled world of WWE gaming. Having left its mark on WWE fans the world over, WWE 2K24 prepares to step down and stand aside for the upcoming, feature-packed title.
WWE 2K24 – 2k Showcase of the Immortals
2k Showcase of the Immortals looks to be WWE 2K24‘s answer to the Showcase mode that featured in the last game. However, this time around we will be treated to a brand new selection of some of the most influential wrestlers in WWE‘s 40-year history. This time around you will be given the opportunity to go back in time to relive the legendary matches of Cody Rhodes, The Rock, Hulk Hogan, Roman Reigns, Bianca Belair, “Macho Man” Rhea Ripley and the notorious Eddie Guerrero.
The trailer for this mode promises tense battles aplenty and the signature graphical switch from video to graphics that really brought Showcase matches to life last time around.
WWE 2K24 will Introduce All-New Match Types
Aside from the new icons we will see in WWE 2K24, we will also be welcoming in some different match types to grapple with. This time around, we will be treated to four returning match types: Guest Referee, Ambulance Match, Casket Match and the forebodingly named Gauntlet Matches.
Guest Referee Matches will allow you to step into the polished shoes of the referee as a wrestler of your choice. This will allow you to officiate fights, count out fighters, and even turn a blind eye to give one fighter the upper hand.
Ambulance Matches pit you against an opponent in a battle that pours out into the backstage areas of the venue as you each try to damage your opponent enough to throw them into an ambulance and lock the doors. Quite a fitting end to such a match. We haven’t seen matches of this ilk in a WWE game since WWE Smackdown vs Raw, way back in 2010.
Gauntlet Matches are another blast of the past, yet again having been last seen in WWE 2K14. Gauntlet Matches work in a “winner stays on” format as you fight players one-on-one until the time runs out and the last man standing takes the win.
Casket Matches were last seen in WWE 2K15 and involved long and bloody battles. The match finishes when one player dominates the square ring enough to put the other in a waiting casket.
WWE 2K24 – Popular Game Modes Returning
WWE 2K23 saw the introduction of MyRise, in which players could embark on career modes following both male and female story arcs. WWE 2K24 will see the return of these story modes but, of course, with all new challenges to face and decisions to make.
MyFaction, which was WWE‘s answer to FIFA‘s Division Rivals match in WWE 2K23, where you play over a series of offline matches and collect superstars to join your faction as you progress through the ranks. This is the mode in which I spent most of my time in during my WWE 2K23 playthrough and I’m delighted to see it’s making a return.
WWE 2K24 – Summary
As a lifelong fan of the WWF/WWE franchise, I’m always excited for the launch of a new franchise game and it’s no different for WWE 2K24. The introduction of new match types, two new career arcs and a bevy of new superstars has been more than enough to pique my interest this time around.
WWE 2K24 will roll out on March 20 and will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
