July is going to be a little extra special this year because Microsoft is doubling the amount of free games for their Games For Gold program. If you are an Xbox Live Gold member, there will be four free games in July – two on Xbox One and two on Xbox 360.
Microsoft also announced that Xbox One Gold members will be receiving two free games each month going forward instead of one free game with a carry over from the previous month to celebrate the two year anniversary of the program.
During the month of July 2015, Xbox One members will be able to download Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag ($29.99) for free. Then So Many Me ($14.99) will be free from July 16th to August 15th.
Then for Xbox 360, Plants Vs Zombies ($14.99) will be free from July 1 – July 15. Then Gears of War 3 ($19.99) will be free through July 31st.
Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag was free on Xbox 360 just a couple months ago so having this game become free on Xbox One is a little disappointing especially since save files do not transfer over (but hey, a free game is a free game). Gears of War Judgement was also recently free on Xbox 360 but now players can play through the conclusion of the trilogy for free in July.
