Hello, everyone! I'm looking for more free-to-play MMOs. I currently play Aura Kingdom, which I like quite a bit. Does anyone know of any free browser MMOs with character customization? I prefer fantasy and science fiction games, but I'll play other games too. Please let me know!

I'm not sure but Runescape used to always be free to play.

Tera's free if you can run it. It's less MMO and more action combat game with a lot of people running around.

I wonder if Fiesta is still around.... If I remember correctly, you didn't have to download anything to play Fiesta and it was pretty fun! I stopped playing it like 5 years ago, but I remember it fondly.

One of my favorite free to play MMORPG's is Forsaken World! The graphics are beautiful and I have always played a vampire when given the option and this game gave me that option! The character or avatar is pretty and customizable and the clothing is very pretty. It is very similar to World of Warcraft. I also play World of Warcraft though that is a monthly fee based game and Diablo 3 it doesn't have a monthly payment but you do have to purchase the game itself. I got it on sale at Wal-Mart for 15 dollars!!

Rift is a pretty popular free MMORPG. It's not mandatory, but you have to spend $5 to be able to post items in the Auction House. I've played Rift for almost 3 years, and never spent a dime except for that $5.

If you have a decent PC- you should try out GW2. The base game has gone completely F2P, there's no subs, gorgeous graphics, fun PvP and decent PvE, no gear grind and overall nice community. There's no P2W mechanics with it and anything you want to purchase is mostly cosmetic with a couple of boosts to ease leveling, crafting, ect but no game breaking mechanics. You can play at your own pace, the combat system takes a little getting used to but it's way more interactive than WoW clones.

I highly recommend you to play Wildstar. I has only gone F2P for a few weeks, but that game is a blast to play. And it is also not pay-to-win at all. It offers all of its content for free. The gameplay is really fun, the raids and dungeons are cool as well, and overall, it is a great addition to other free to play MMOs out there. Definitely a must try.

Guild Wars 2 is an amazing MMO, and I was almost going to buy it before it went free. It has lots of detail, a unique quest system, and pretty decent graphics. I love how bosses are dynamic events, and when one appears everyone in the vicinity comes and helps. It gets rid of a lot of selfishness in the MMO community due to a sense of teamwork.

I bought the game years ago prior to release and I never regretted purchasing it haha. Getting gold's a bit of a grind and powering through content will make it boring but that's if it's burned through fast. I was surprised to see the base go F2P since GW1 didn't go that route. However I think it was an awesome decision on Anet's part to draw in new players.

The best (recent) MMO I have played is without a doubt Neverwinter. It is an awesome game, it's fun to play and feels like a new breath in the MMORPG genre, it's well built and I have not experienced any bugs, the only down site is the lack of an open world map. Combat is reactive, and enjoyable. Not your average quickbar mmo. Fun to pick up from time to time and get back into, still leveling but haven't really noticed any constraints from the free to play system, don't feel like a second class citizen despite having never paid a dime. Maybe that all changes when you get to max level, but I've had nothing but fun with it so far off and on and there seems a fair bit to do.

DC Universe Online! I'm addicted to this game, so I'm a bit biased but it's a lot of fun. They keep adding more content, and the F2P portion is good enough to give you many hours of superhero fun! That being said, I do pay monthly for it since I don't like restrictions. :)

There are some websites that of some really nice lists of some really great MMO's personally I think Minecraft is probably the best MMO game out. I mean if you are into that type of thing.

Is Minecraft Free-to-Play though? I'm fairly certain you have to pay for it, even though I think it's pretty cheap.

Guild Wars 2 is pretty nice for a free 2 play MMO. While it is pay 2 play (buy once and play forever, or as long as game servers are running), it also has F2P model, which is pretty liberal. Free accounts are limited to 2 character slots, no map chat (to prevent spammers, gold sellers et cetera), auction house limitations and no log in bonus. Still, it is one of the best F2P models and this game, while not for everyone, is still worth to try.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is a lot more limiting than GW2, but I see it as a more of a sequel to the legendary Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series. It has 8 different story lines (good story for a MMO) and so far (I'm only level 26) I haven't seen the need to group with other people. Limitations are pretty horrible thought, the worst in my opinion are free accounts having limited action bar space and not receiving some valuable rewards from quests/instances.

I love GW2, but before it went Free to Play I think the user base was dying. The release of Heart of Thorns and going f2p was greatly timed. It got to the point where I was repeatedly getting the "move to a higher populated server" message pop-up. The thing I find difficult about the game though is finding a community to play with. I tried to get some of my FPS friends to play with me but it being such a grind early on they all fell off, now im in a guild by myself. I would pretty much only play PvE anyway but I wish there was a larger user base to play with. Maybe that will change with the updates.

I'd suggest joining a larger guild to find people to play with. I often found that most of my IRL friends and even my ex wasn't that into GW2 so I found my own niche of people in a few guilds before forming my own. Anet's move to make a lot of nice cosmetic stuff obtainable via grinding is a huge turn off. As long as you don't give two craps about cosmetics then overall the gameplay isn't that bad. I think a lot of people quit because it's impossible to get nice skins without grinding into oblivion. As long as you ignore that aspect, story and gameplay itself is good.

Just my two cents - Anet promised a lot of things for GW2, but failed to deliver them. The world doesn't feel alive, there are like 3 types of dynamic events - kill, collect or escort, most of the times you don't even know why are you killing centaurs or escorting something because you joined the event midway through. The story wasn't something to brag about either and spamming same old 5 weapon skills got boring after like level 10. Same goes for WvW, whoever had the bigger zerg usually won.

Still it is a nice theme park MMO with active combat and you should give it a try. Just don't expect seeing hundreds of other players. Outside of WvW it felt like there are 10-20 other players in the zone you're in (maybe things have changed sine launch of HoT).

Yeah, you do have to pay. I've seen sites advertising Minecraft servers before as free-to-play, though I highly doubt they're anywhere near legitimate. I think you can also technically play one of the beta versions of Minecraft for free, but it's probably missing a bunch of stuff, and I doubt multiplayer is included.

There's a lot wrong with the game I won't deny that. The gold grind and the lack of decent rewards in game to get really nifty looking stuff is disappointing. However the argument about the weapon skills is the same with any MMO. Anet just streamlined the clutter from other MMOs into basic stuff that you're going to use. I've played dozens of MMOs, most that are WoW mechanics knockoffs and honestly despite having a cluster fudge of 50+ skills, I only used like 10 at most in a specific rotation in PvE or just whatever is useful in PvP...which once again boiled down to 10 as well including 2-3 min CDs.

WvW is much more fun as a small party disrupting certain points and supply lines versus running with zergs. I learned that really fast early on after getting sick and tired of the endless zerg rush. A couple friends of mine and a couple randoms got tired of it one night and the server was losing so we decided to break off from the train and party up to do some damage at supply routes and cause havoc. Guess what- in the span of two hours our server went from losing badly to winning cause the trains were so busy fighting each other that they weren't holding posts or gaining supply lines. Also team SPvP is a mini version of WvW with 5 on 5. I was never much of a PvP player in the past but GW2 made it really engaging for me.

It's not at all a perfect game, but it has its charms. Story is way more engaging than WoW/WoW clones. SWTOR is better and so is FF14 Reborn on that aspect, but SWTOR's other gameplay functions aren't nearly as fun and FF14 is a paid sub. There's lots of stuff to do as long as you don't buy into the whole cosmetic hype cause that route leads to insanity. It's overall good for really casual gameplay if you want a little of something here and there without breaking your bank.
