Little Kitty, Big City (Xbox Series) Review

From the creative minds of Double Dagger Studio comes a game oozing with charm. Little Kitty, Big City follows the life of a cat living the not-so-mean streets after falling from a window ledge during a particularly enjoyable snooze.

With it’s day one introduction to Xbox Game Pass, the adorable simulator has reached captured the hearts of cat fans the world over and continues to bring some good, wholesome family fun to the homes of many. With so much violence portrayed in video games, Little Kitty, Big City is a refreshing change to the usual and carries the message that games don’t necessarily need blood-shed and cursing to be enjoyable.

Little Kitty, Big City – Storyline

Doing what cats do best and taking an afternoon snooze on a window ledge, you take a good ol’ stretch to find yourself tumbling through the air and to the street below. Thankfully, being a cat you land unscathed but find yourself lost and too weak to take on the climb that will take you home.

Thankfully, the “big city” the title promises is dotted with tasty energy-boosting fish that help you climb higher and home to a bevy of helpful creatures to help you along the way.

Little Kitty, Big City is an Absolute Must for Cat Fans

Little Kitty, Big City offers an abundance of cat-related charm. With more puns than you can shake a stick at and a magnitude of cute cat-isms that will melt even the iciest of hearts, Double Dagger Studio‘s latest title should be a part of every cat-lover’s game collection.

With such a simple plot to follow, Little Kitty, Big City allows you to instead focus on side-missions and collectibles. For such a short game (around two hours start to finish), there are a lot of things to keep you occupied, should you wish to attain 100% completion. There are perfect snoozing spots to find, birds nests to paw at and hats to collect. Yes, you heard me right!

The hats are scattered around the city in gumball machines and some in harder to reach spots that are challenging to collect but without being frustratingly so. With forty-two to collect, they come in a whole manner of styles; ranging from cute to outright adorable.

Little Kitty, Big City: Good, Wholesome, Family Fun

Double Dagger Studio have gone all out to make sure this game is as harmless as possible and have tread carefully to avoid upsetting children. Cats are said to have nine lives but there are no lives at all in Little Kitty, Big City because there is no way to die. Even the birds that you catch during the game are freed without harm, you simply take a feather that they leave behind. The feathers can be used for quick transportation around the city on the “Petwork” and everyone is happy.

It’s a Shame that Little Kitty, Big City is so Short-Lived

Playing at a steady rate, the main objective in this game can be completed in just a couple of hours. While there’s a magnitude of other things to do, it would have been nice if it took a little longer to find my way home. On the other hand, some of the tasks that you need to complete to get to the coveted 100% completion ask way too much. Recycling discarded soda cans, for example, can be fun for the first ten but the target of 100 cans quickly becomes a bit of a chore.

I also experienced a few bugs during my playthrough. These were quickly resolved with a restarting of the game, however, and nothing that couldn’t be fixed with a quick update.

Summary

Despite the few niggling bugs and short completion time, I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the big city, as a little kitty. As a lover of all things furry, this title had me captivated from the start and there’s no doubt that I will be completing all of the achievements in the future.

Puns, purrs and paws await in this heart-warming game.
