Superhot Mind Control Delete (PC) Review

Superhot Mind Control Delete is here!

Finely balancing between a puzzler and a shooter, Superhot first brought a genre of its very own over a decade ago, in 2013. With the hands of time only moving when you do gives you the perfect opportunity to take part in your very own action film as you dodge flying rounds like Neo in the Matrix. The real-time playbacks further brought the point home by replaying your badass ways and putting you slap bang in the middle of your very own action movie.

However, the imaginatively named development studio, Superhot Team, have since dug their heels into the dirt and left an 11-year gap before bringing out the sequel. While the usual course of action in a long lull would be to find a similar game, fans of Superhot were left hanging as there simply wasn’t another game out there to match the unique angle that first set Superhot aside from its competition.

Superhot Mind Control Delete is Finally Here

There gamers, previously left dry, will have welcomed the eventual landing of a sequel. Superhot: Mind Control Delete throws the story mode out of the window and instead introduced a new angle to the game’s campaign. Mind Control Delete instead takes the approach of allowing players t choose a node from a grid-based map before playing through a series of levels to move on to the next set of missions.

Unlike the infuriating factor of one-shot kills we saw in the first game, Superhot Mind Control Delete has introduced a health system that comes in the form of hearts that you lose on taking damage and die when your hearts are depleted. Superhot Team have also switched out level design with the maps and enemy placement randomized each time. The result is a far more prevalent feeling of being the gun-toting action hero that you were always destined to be but seriously impeding on the puzzle element of the first game.

Superhot Mind Control Delete – Hacks and Cores

Another new – and welcome – addition to the series are the many hacks that you will periodically get to choose from. These hacks can range from the trivial, with heart replenishes and speed boosts, to the outright awesome, with some offering the ability to explode objects on impact, throw katanas through your adversaries or even kill them by jumping on them like some sort of ninja Mario.

Additionally, players can select cores that grant unique abilities, further enhancing their combat prowess. Combine these cores with compatible hacks to unleash devastating combinations, such as recalling thrown katanas or amplifying melee attacks.

Superhot Mind Control Delete – Weapons

Superhot MInd Control Delete brings with an abundance of items and weapons with which to kill and maim. We not have a railgun, throwable knives and pencils and wooden boards studded with nails. Despite there being a lot more variety in the weaponized items, the railgun is the only new firearm but what a firearm it is.

Don’t be lulled into a false sense of confidence due to your improved arsenal as enemies also have a few new tricks up their sleeves. Those armed with melee weapons can block anything you throw at them, whilst those welding swords can even block flying bullets. The strengthening of the enemy doesn’t stop there, with some having just one weak spot that you can attack and some that even explode in a hail of bullets. While it sounds like they have done little more than make the game harder, they have actually forced the player to think a little more in order to defeat the stages.
