FINAL FNTASY SuCKS!

I think what bothers me so much is when someone says that FF7 or the series as a whole is so awesome, and when anyone disagrees they're insulted into oblivion. If a reason for the awesomeness of FF is asked for, the answer usually boils down to something like "well so many people like it it must be good." As if being popular makes a game great. Just because the Toyota Camry is the best selling car in the U.S. doesn't mean it's the best car out there.

people who like fanal fantasy are ghey. period.

imagexs, you are right man. cause like, look at Master Chief. he doesnt start out as a wimp but he is already kcik AS$ like from the very begingn and it just get s better. im so sick of not having good weapons and sh!t when a game starts. but master chief is different. he is by far the best game character ever.

I enjoyed them for what they were. They are much too slow for me now. I guess KoToR spoiled me. I also like the new way of approaching gameplay that allows you to choose where you go and when you go (for the most part) and advances the story accordingly.

Morrowind is still one of the best RPG's I've ever played for that reason. No, the storyline isn't amazing (though if you look at the entire series it's pretty epic) but the free-roaming nature of the game is just awesome. In fact, I never played the main quest too far simply because I got caught up wandering around the island, looking for stuff, talking to people, exploring shipwrecks, etc.

Personally, I'm surprised everyone put aside their undue hatred of Halo to poke at FF. Now I'll admit that Final Fantasy, pretty much with FFT as the only exemption, is all about a teenage male coming of age, saving the girl, and killing his evil brother/ex-comrade/village's destroyer, and the story is always linear. But each game has a solid battle system (except Mystic Quest), a long and worthwhile experience, and is always on the cutting edge of graphics (which when you look at Suikodens or Dragon Quests, is quite good...no offense to either, since I am THE Suikoden fan). But each Final Fantasy has been a good to great game, and whether a horde of dumbass fanboys agrees with me or not (or a horde of anti-fanboys disagree), it's still true. It's a classic series. It's an important series (it helped save the NES and it pretty much sold most of the early PS1s). So don't be hatin'.

I just put up some pics for Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII for PS2. Looks pretty sweet to me....although i haven't played much of the series.....

Yeah, the graphics look ass-kickably good. But even so, Square-Enix has a pretty bad track record with action games, and even Kingdom Hearts was a high percentage of button mashing....but now they're trying to make a game that blends Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid. So I just question whether they can do it or not.

i know how you feel. it all comes together and means a lot to you. but i think childhood played more of a part in that too, for some of these memories we hold so dear. a lot of those feelings are being experienced for the first times...we havent been jaded by reality to the point where things seemed sappy or anything.

I agree somewhat. Had I been an older, wiser person at the time of FFVII, or maybe a little younger, I might not have appreciated it as much. I believe that it will take more time, more distance to know the impact or importance of some of the games we're playing and have played.

I'll admit that it isn't as fun or engaging nowadays (knowing what will happen, random battles getting annoying already), but I still believe it's the best RPG ever made. It's in the ideas it embodies and how they are expressed that remain fresh. Legend of Dragoon tried to pattern itself after FFVII in a lot of ways but failed. RPGs, to me, have always been somewhat of a cerebral experience, with their focus on strategy, long plots, abstract interactions, and puzzle-solving. I would never play an RPG to have fun I don't think, especially older ones, derivative ones, and RPGs that use a random-encounter system. Just not my idea of a fun time.

Stay in school, kids... Stay in school. :fryingpan

Also, Imago, when I personally say RPG, I refer to the Japanese tradition since it's the only RPG exposure I have. By extension, that includes almost all console RPGs, which are--for the most part--Japanse-style RPGs. I'll make note of the exinction in the future (hopefully). :p

^^^ Completely agree. It's hard for me to not take FF7 off its pedastal. I speak for one of the millions of gamers who never experienced an RPG prior to it. And since it inspired me to purchase other gems after playing it in a genre I wouldn't have looked twice at before (Suikoden, Vandal Hearts, Wild Arms, etc.) then it did its job.

Admittedley, the hype that FF7 had attached to it definitely fueled its' magic (remember the kickass commercials and ads in EGM that taunted Nintendo for not being able to handle the game because of the cartridge format?) Bottom line is that I absolutely love the experience that I had with FF7, despite its faults that it may have in retrospect.

And Master Chief is the greatest video game character ever? Dude is NP (no personality, for those not in the know :duh: ), and when he does try to talk, he says cheesy cliche-ridden taglines from a B-action movie. I'll pass on him.

You're right.. I didn't mean he's a one-liner guy in the mold of good ol' Arnold or anything extreme like that, but the little bit he does talk... I'm just not a fan of. I don't know how to explain it. I should have just stuck with NP!

Well, he has some personality revealed throughout the games.

Which is more than that newbie, Gordon Freeman, can say. How generic!

LMFAO...I leave the site for a little while and this is what happens.

You all are GHEY! Except for BC who only has tendencies when it concerns minors.

You know I like me them miners. Coal miners especially.

To be fair to Rock he didn't say "one liners". And yeah, Master Chief has a personality but it's a completely bland, cliched one. He could be any generic meathead in a low-budget action movie that goes straight to the Sci-Fi channel.

It's funny that Rock mentions that FF7 was his first RPG. I find that among the biggest FF fanboys this is usually the case. The friends that I grew up with, who all played tons of classic RPGs on NES, Genesis, and SNES, mostly couldn't care about FF7 and weren't all that impressed. I think this is a fine distinction in age among gamers; those who actually grew up with the NES (say, born before 1980 or so), and those who got into gaming later, when the 16- and 32-bit consoles were current. I see some very strong differences between these two groups, and I think it does have a lot to do with those "first experiences". There is definately more than one generation of gamer now, and I can honestly say that there are some things that older gamers don't understand about younger gamers.
